More tough Hickory area traffic news: a second man, this time a pedestrian, was killed in a hit and run crash on Rt. 70 in Hickory, NC, at 8 in the morning, Wednesday, Feb. 19, just 5 days after another man on a bicycle was killed on the same road only about 5 miles away in Conover.

Here's how Rt. 70 near the Feb. 19 crash site looks at street level.

Hickory Police arrested the driver in the Feb. 19 crash, and NC Highway Patrol have recently arrested a suspect in the Feb. 14 Conover hit and run crash.

Hickory and the surrounding area are not alone with tough traffic news like this. As I wrote here recently, though driver-on-driver crash rates across the country continue to decline slightly, after a significant spike increase during the Covid years, traffic crashes with pedestrians and cyclists are at all time highs.

More about that and efforts to make roads safer for all soon.
