May is National Bike Month. Below is a list of events that includes our BikeWalkNC state legislature lobby day and the international Ride of Silence to commemorate cyclists killed or injured in traffic crashes. As safety is a significant component of Bike Month, I've also included a link to a 30 second Wray Ward professionally shot Breitz! "What You Wear Can Save Your Life" video.
Yesterday, Sunday, May 4, was National Ride a Bike Day. Hope you made the most of it. Screamin' gorgeous, crystal clear air here in Hickory! The shot you see above is part of the new Hickory Aviation Walk approaching the Hickory Airport control tower.
Tuesday, May 6: BikeWalkNC (BWNC) North Carolina General Assembly Lobby Day. Will be my first time joining our BWNC team to lobby our state legislature about realistically acheiveable active transportation goals. More about that when I'm back.
Wednesday, May 7: National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day
Monday-Sunday, May 12-18: National Bike to Work Week and Friday, May 16: National Bike to Work Day
Wednesday, May 21, 7 PM Worldwide: International Ride of Silence (to commemorate cyclists killed or injured in traffic crashes) Shot above is from Hickory last year. Had rain before and after the ride - and terrific support from our Hickory Police Department.
As mentioned above, safety is a significant component of Bike Month. Here's a link to a Breitz! "What You Wear Can Save Your Life" video recently shot by Wray Ward and featuring Charlotte area actor, Brian Lafontaine. Thanks very much Team Wray Ward and Brian. Lots of fun mixing the reality of "Visibility is a cyclists first line of defense" with a good twist of humor.
