Wednesday Night Hickory Riders Rode in Silence to Remember Lost or Injured Fellow Cyclists

David Metz, President of the Hickory Velo Club, opened Wednesday night’s Ride of Silence with a solemn reminder of cyclists in the Hickory area injured or killed in traffic crashes. He also noted the near misses everyone of us there on bikes has had and the very real risk we each take every time we choose to ride.

Fourteen of us—including Hickory Police Officer Jon Mayhue—then rolled out of Hickory's downtown Union Square for an easy-paced and quiet, reflective ride on a stunningly comfortable evening.

There’s not much more to say because words don't cut it, except that the best we can hope for is that we have no one to commemorate next year from traffic crashes this year.

Ride on, ride safe!
