Landry's Westborough: Great Friends, Always Outstanding Service

Hopped out for a brilliant ride in the Purchase, NY, Greenwich, CT, area over Thanksgiving week, when I suddenly lost both front and brake hydraulic brakes approaching a T intersection.

Boy, was I very thankful for no cross car traffic, but that brake fail left no question that I'd pop by my go-to Landry's Bike Shop, Westborough, as I always did when I lived in that town for decades.

One quick tip, if you suffer a similar sudden hydraulic brake fail, pump the brake levers a few times and do that intermittently while on the roll to build up some pressure in the lines, and definitely test the brakes before you see something ahead that will make you want or need to stop.

Soon as I got to Landry's the next day, I checked in with longtime friend and outstanding wrench (mechanic), Russ Coates, who has been managing the shop for years, after being the go-to wrench for even longer.

Even though he stopped to say hi and talk for a minute, I could see Russ was busy with a customer, so I hopped over to the service desk to meet Adrian and Peter.

Peter saw right away that I needed new front and back brake pads and asked how long it had been since I'd last had my hydraulic lines bled. "Ha! Never." Both he and Adrianne suggested getting that done, too.

Of course, Thanksgiving Thursday was two days away. Peter said he could have the bike done by Friday. I think Adrianne saw the "but I was planning on hopping out for a ride tomorrow" look on my face and promised to get the bike done that night.

Killer! That's exactly the same service I got with Russ and his team years ago when I was in the shop very regularly.

I picked up the bike a little after opening time the next morning and hopped out for this very familiar, fun and sneaky hilly ride.

Brakes worked great both then and on a wet Thanksgiving ride the next morning to check out this old stone church near Holden, MA.

Thanks very much, Team Landry's! I appreciate your outstanding service, terrifically positive attitude and continued strong friendship - all where the rubber hits the road!

  • Adrianne is my sister! It’s funny, having seen her grow up, how much the afternoon wrenching with our Dad has influenced us both. She’s basically a savant and the only mechanic that’s a gal I’m aware of. Neat to see her work appreciated
