Sea Otter Classic 2025 Favorites, Part 2: Biky Smart Kids Bikes

I always get a big smile seeing kids at bike festivals both for their joyful love of rolling freely on two wheels and their often incredibly good bike handling skills as I saw at both Bentonville Bike Fest 2024 (above) and Sea Otter 2025.

Regarding getting kids started on bikes, I'm a big fan of balance bikes because they do what bikes with training wheels can never do, actually teach a child how to use correct body position to lean into turns on a bike. Biky's Smart 12 (above), though, takes kids balance bikes to an innovative new level with integrated electronics that power rear chain/seat stay red lights, white headlight and a GPS system that allows parents to know where their child is while riding the bike and even help recover a stolen bike.

And that's just the start. Biky's kids smart pedal bikes creatively move visibility beyond just head and tail lights with projected 360 degree lighting as shown below. One of my Breitz! wear tag lines is that visibility is a cyclist's first line of defense, and Biky's 360 lighting system creates an oval of light on the pavement to make a child rider stand out more visibly to drivers in low light.

If you check their site, you'll see the Biky line of smart bikes has won multiple awards in 2024 and 2025 that include iF Design (International Forum Design), New York Design Award, Red Dot Award and German Innovation Award.

Congratulations and thanks very much, Danil Kontsevoy and Team Biky for innovating practical technology designed specifically to help our kids start their journey to become lifelong lovers of cycling as safely as possible.
