Homemade Banana Ice Cream: Easy, Fully Flavorful and Great Athlete Food

Despite what you may hear or see, like the popup image below,...

...bananas, one of the world's most consumed foods, are very good food, especially for us as athletes/physically active people.

Of course, bananas are well known for preventing muscle cramps because of their relatively high potassium content. I say "relatively" because there are other foods, like avocados, that are much higher in potassium content (click this link for 18 foods with higher potassium content). In addition to cramp prevention, bananas help reduce blood pressure, are an excellent source of fiber, help with wound healing, can improve sleep and much more as outlined in more detail in Very Well Fit: Banana Nutrition Facts and Health Benefits.

As an avid cyclist trapped, ha!, in an almost 66-year "young" body, I'm a big fan of bananas for both their nutritional benefits and fantastic flavor. This post is about one of my favorite ways to enjoy bananas: homemade banana ice cream, which I love for how easy it is to make and take "from simple to exciting" as you'll see below.

The one kicker: you'll need a good food processor, like the one shown here, not a blender, to make banana ice cream.

If you have a food processor, great. If not, borrow one from a relative or friend and pay them back with freshly made banana ice cream.

In its simplest form, all you need are 3 ingredients: frozen bananas, vanilla extract and ground cinnamon.

To go beyond that, just take what you want from you fridge and cabinets to take that banana ice cream from simple to exciting.

Here are some examples of what I've used to make banana ice cream with added full-on flavor,...

...including what I used just yesterday and...

...how I had it for lunch dessert today - of course with added action flavors. (Flavor rules!)

Killer!

Just click any picture on this page or this link to the Gotta' Eat, Can't Cook dessert page for picture book directions showing how to make banana ice cream simply or with added flavor that you can always adjust to meet your personal taste or dietary needs.

Enjoy - and keep moving!
